How To: Reduce Inner Thigh Fat

Fat on the inner thighs is a common complaint among women. According to Dr. Mehmet Oz, it’s one of their biggest problem areas, along with the belly, arms and butt. Unfortunately, the fat in this area is harder to get rid of because it’s less metabolically active. Still, there are several proactive measures you can take — including a combination of a healthy diet and toning exercises — to boost metabolism and target the fat stores in the inner thighs.

Step 1

Take 1,000 milligrams of calcium pyruvate before meals for one week. It is produced naturally by the body but not in sufficient quantities. To burn thigh fat, a supplement of pyruvic acid — combined with calcium — can kick-start weight loss and minimize fat stores.

Step 2

Trade animal protein for alternative protein sources for one week. Because animal protein is high in saturated fat, it tends to be stored in the thighs. Try eating plant-based proteins such as beans, tofu or tempeh instead.

Step 3

Incorporate circuit training in weekly workouts to burn fat while building muscle. Celebrity fitness trainer, Jillian Michaels, recommends circuit training workouts because they can burn up to 30 percent more calories than strength training alone. A circuit workout may start with a thigh-toning exercise like a plié — or wide squat — or dumbbell lunge. Follow that with a few minutes of intense cardio activity such as sprinting or jumping rope. The entire workout will rotate between the two types of exercise. Incorporate at least 30 minutes of daily cardio and two weekly toning sessions into your fitness routine.

Step 4

Apply a topical cream designed to shrink cellulite. In “The 4-Hour Body,” author Tim Ferriss reported success with a 2 percent aminophylline cellulite-reducing cream. Applying the cream twice daily for 18 days, he experienced a significant reduction in thigh circumference. The National Institutes of Health performed a study of topical creams for fat reduction and reported similar results.
