5 Group Workout Ideas
Sep 28, 2018
Have an upcoming event that you want to get in shape for? Staying motivated to exercise can be very difficult to do alone. It’s easy to say you’ll work out later, but then get distracted by work or get too tired to go for that run. Working out with a group can give you the extra push you need to stay motivated. In fact, the healthy actions of others can actually influence our own healthy actions. Here are some ideas of group workouts you can do to look and feel your best before a big event, while also having fun!
Boxercise:
This is the perfect exercise if you need to blow off some steam, but without an opponent like in traditional boxing. Boxercise is a great workout to do with friends, or with strangers, in a group fitness class. It is becoming an increasingly popular way to get toned and develop overall discipline.
Plogging:
Want to get fit with friends while also saving the environment? This eco-friendly workout method is originally derived from Sweden and it involves picking up trash as you jog. The cool thing about this workout is that you’re not only helping the environment, but you’re also adding weight as you jog, which will give you a better workout! Plogging as a group will only increase the environmental efforts while also making your group of friends look and feel great.
PiYo:
PiYo combines the muscle-strengthening advantages from pilates and the improved flexibility advantages from yoga. It’s a total body workout that will both challenge you and relieve your stress. The great thing about PiYo is that most classes only range between 25-45 minutes. So you can choose the amount of time that works best in your schedule, giving you and your friends more flexibility.
Cycling:
Cycling classes have drastically transformed over the years. Many places have made cycling into a fun, upbeat group workout routine. Some studios have screens where it looks like you’re biking outside, while others make it feel like you’re in a nightclub. If you want a workout that feels more like a party, this might be the right one for your group.
Hiking:
Although hiking may not seem like an obvious workout routine, it can definitely make you more fit, while giving you a reason to get outside. You and a group of friends can go to your favorite trails or travel to new ones. Hiking can help give you some perspective and might not feel like a real workout at the same time. Find a trail that works for you and your friends, bring some snacks, go at your own pace, and make a day of it.
Once you find the right group exercise for you, working out won’t seem like such a chore. Before you know it, you’ll start reaping in the benefits that group workouts provide. You’ll become more accountable for not only your overall fitness, but also the people around you. Clothes will look great on you, which is especially helpful if you’re preparing for a big event where you want to wear a sleeveless dress or wear a suit that fits right. As the people around you improve, so will you. So get out there, get social, and make it fun.
